James Kegley, better known by all as Punkie, is a Lieutenant with Hanover Fire & EMS. His family has a long history in Hanover County. His father volunteered in both Ashland and Farrington beginning in the 1970’s. Punkie followed his father around the fire house and joined as a volunteer in Farrington in 1982. In 1998, Punkie became a dispatcher at the Emergency Communications Center, and he continued to volunteer until he was hired as a Firefighter in 1999. Punkie has served Hanover Fire EMS in the Farrington, Hanover Courthouse, Rockville, and Beaverdam fire districts.
Punkie’s wife, Amy, and their twin 13 year old boys have been caring for Punkie since he became ill back in April of 2012. The family continues to live in Farrington and the boys are going to school at Liberty Middle where they are involved in the band and wrestling programs.
Punkie has been a dedicated member of the community. His kind, giving nature has benefitted many citizens of Hanover. Now he needs our support. Punkie is fighting a serious medical condition that has left him unable to work. He has been sick for a long time and he has been placed in a position with no sick leave and therefore he is receiving no pay.
The Hanover Fire Fighters on behalf of the Kegley family are asking for your help. We have organized a cornhole tournament, motorcycle ride, and BBQ event.
